I was floating in the pool this afternoon, completely at peace with my life. I had no racing thoughts, last-minute deadlines, or anxiety-inducing issues. I was just feeling one with Creation.
The birds were chirping, a gentle breeze was blowing, and the cool water was the perfect complement to the warm sun. I had on a pair of sunglasses as I opened my eyes and was mesmerized by hundreds of small, puffy clouds dotting the bright blue sky above.
I’d never seen clouds quite like this. Each one stood alone, not touching the others yet still joined together in this floating masterpiece. I just stared in wonderment until I heard the Lord speak.
“This is a picture of all the saints who’ve prayed for you in your life,” He said. “You’ve been surrounded by prayer in every season, in every valley.” I saw flashes of faces from my grandmother to women I’d babysat for. People I knew. People I didn’t. Prayer surrounded me, even when I felt utterly alone.
They were no longer here on earth, but the prayers they’d prayed for me meant our lives were forever intertwined.
Those clouds weren’t just a picture of my life. They were a reminder of something true for all of us.
Think about the people who have prayed for you. Parents, grandparents, Sunday school teachers, friends, and even strangers who have never met you. Some have already gone on to Heaven. Others are still here, faithfully lifting your name before the Lord. You may never know how many prayers have been spoken on your behalf, but God knows every one.
I hope that one day, when someone looks up at a sky filled with little white clouds, they’ll remember that while I was here, I prayed for them too.
