How many times do you have to listen to a lie before it sounds like truth?

Twice.

This is called the illusory truth effect. Psychological studies show that the single largest increase in belief happens when we encounter the same false statement for the second time.

And yet Satan repeats the same lies to us over and over.

[Satan] was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

The only way to cut through the noise is with God’s truth. Like a beautiful soprano voice commanding attention, the pitch perfect and melodious sound rings pure.

🎶 But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
And the Voice of Truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth 🎶

In our fallen nature, it is sometimes easier to commiserate with the lies. To wallow in the mire. It feels soothing…at first. This warm blanket of misery that we snuggle under seems safe.

But it is a weighted blanket of doom, growing heavier with time. The longer we allow the covers of darkness to envelop us, the more they become grave clothes for the living.

Shake off the bindings and listen to the Voice of Truth.
