I’ve relied on Psalm 30:5 for years. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

I’ve had so many seasons of weeping, ones that I thought would never end. Months on end where I thought joy would never return for me. I knew God’s promises were true, but I wondered if I’d used all of mine up.

And yet, hope always returned, followed by joy.

Each time I came out of another dark hole, my faith would grow. I began to expect healing instead of merely hoping for it. I began to stand on the promises of joy instead of wondering if it would return.

Grief is dark. Divorce is dark. Estrangement is dark. Illness is dark. There are so many pitfalls and storms of life that make it hard to see joy.

But there will be joy in the morning, no matter how long the evening lasts.
