The Lord tells us not to engage with Satan. Don’t tempt, don’t taunt. I’m usually pretty good with that. Keep your eyes on Jesus instead.
But sometimes when I hear these lyrics, I step to the line where the devil and I used to go toe-to-toe and refuse to flinch.
He had his turn running my life. Those days are over. He better run.
Something shifts inside when you begin to see Satan for who he really is—a blustering playground bully. Someone whose power is measured by how much you hand over.
Remember the 1980 classic My Bodyguard? New kid Cliff is tormented until he hires Ricky Linderman to be his bodyguard. The bullies can’t touch him after that.
Jesus is that bodyguard, but there is no cost to employ his services. He paid that price on the cross. All you have to do is ask.
Then the devil better run…
Run Devil Run (Crowder, 2016)
I got something make the devil gonna run
Keep him dancing ′til the break of dawn
Devil gonna try to take a shot at me
He got none, but baby I got three
He try to make a fool out of me
Gone pickin’ at my sanity
He ain′t nothing but a silver tongue
I got something make the devil gonna run
I got something make the devil go away
I’ve been dancin′ all night and day
Holy Ghost, filled with fire
Look out devil we got revival
