2023.
That was the year. We all have one of those. The year that comes to mind at the beginning of Leanna Crawford’s Thank God.
It could be decades ago. You might be in the midst of it now. But when you are out of it, the only thing you can say is “Thank God.”
🎶 I remember the year that
Spring felt a little colder
The sky was heavy
Like it was crying on my shoulder
Just wasn’t myself
Needed some help
Kinda hard to admit
That I wasn’t doing well 🎶
But the thing that I always remember—though not always in the midst of the storm—is that we grow in the valley.
My valley was treacherous, and if I’m being honest, rather embarrassing. There were people who met me for the first time during that season, and I hope I never run into them again. It was not the version of me I want to be known as.
But God always knew who I was, who He created me to be. Thank God He didn’t turn His back on me when I forgot who that was.
The song even reminds me of lessons my mom taught me. Lessons of faith and the Lord’s steadfastness. Even while I was living out a little too much of Miranda Lambert’s Mama’s Broken Heart, she was reminding me of truth.
🎶 And I remember my momma
Said “Baby don’t you worry
He’s got this, it’s a process
Just let Him write your story”🎶
And oh what a beautiful story He has written.
Thank God (Leanna Crawford, 2026)
There’s a part of all good stories
Where you wonder if the morning sun will shine
Again
Sometimes faith is learning lessons
Sometimes pain turns into blessings
So I’m remembering
To thank God
For all the times that He said no
Thank God
He let me walk the harder road
Thank God that not too soon
When I was lost
His light broke through
And even when I think it’s over
Second chances still come true
Thank God
