The reason I so unashamedly share my sins and struggles—along with the hope and redemption that followed—can be summed up in the lyrics of the new song, What Grace Can Do.
🎶 I’ve heard a still small voice
Saying, “I have plans for you”
Felt a nail scarred hand heal my deepest wounds
Now I can’t help but tell the story of what Jesus has done for me
Praise God, my life was proof of what His grace can do 🎶
I grew up in church. I knew the stories, could quote the books of the Bible backwards and forwards. I won Bible drills at the age of six, and it was not just all in my head—Jesus was in my heart, too.
But the light He placed in me came with a target on my head. What Satan didn’t do to me, I did to myself. I found myself down dead-end roads and in holes so dark I was certain I wouldn’t see my way out.
I knew what despair could do.
I knew what fear could do.
I knew what trauma could do.
I knew what heartache could do.
But then I discovered what grace could do.
It wasn’t my knowledge of Bible verses, Old Testament prophets, or biblical concepts that healed me. It was my Father, with outstretched arms, welcoming me home in an ocean of grace.
What Grace Can Do (Cochren & Co., 2026)
I’ve seen what sin can do
Drag you down and bury you
Make you think you’ll never see the light of day
I’ve seen what shame can do
Make a lie sound like the truth
It’ll tell your heart you fell too far away
But I have seen a Father come running
And I have seen His arms open wide, saying, “Come back home”
I have felt how it feels to be forgiven and made new
Hallelujah, I have seen what grace can do
