🎶 I can see the clouds roll in
I can feel the winds, they try to shake me
I will not be moved
My feet are on the Rock 🎶
Boy, could I relate to this song. It seemed like everything had fallen apart around me at once. My mom had died and my father—who’d always been my rock—was grieving so hard it broke my heart. My writing career was at a crossroads, and I wasn’t sure which path to take. My joy seemed to have been buried with my mother, and I wondered if life would ever be the same again.
I didn’t know the answers to most of the questions that swirled in my head, but I knew one thing: my feet were planted firmly on the rock of faith.
It was my power pack, ready to recharge me when my battery ran low.
I use my phone a lot for work and the battery sometimes drains very quickly. After finding myself with a dead battery in a new city on a travel assignment once, I couldn’t call a Lyft, couldn’t follow the GPS, and had to walk three miles back to the hotel, stopping every few minutes at a store to verify I was going the right way.
I bought a portable battery pack that evening and was never without it again. It was my insurance against completely running out of power.
That’s exactly what having a well of faith is. A reserve of Holy Spirit power when life has drained you. Knowing that your feet are planted firmly and that everything is going to be okay—when it feels like it’s anything but okay.
🎶 When I feel my hope about to break
I will cling to Your unchanging grace
Let the waters come and the Earth give way
I’ll be dancing in the rain
My feet are on the Rock 🎶
Build up your well of faith when you don’t need it, so that it will be full when you do. And then you will find your feet are planted so firmly they cannot be moved.
My Feet Are on the Rock (I Am They, 2018)
I can see the morning light
I can feel the joy on the horizon
Here my faith is found
I stand on solid ground
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalm 40:2
