I faced a bit of an identity crisis a couple of weeks ago, professionally speaking. The voices in my head kept getting louder and louder.
They don’t appreciate anything you do in Central Louisiana.
There’s fifty more who do what you do, only better.
You are nothing but an imposter—too old to be an influencer, too inexperienced to be a real journalist.
Normally I can recognize Satan’s lies quickly and rebuke them, but this time was different.
For one, I was still knee-deep in grief over the passing of my mom. Two, he brought receipts. My heart was already too shattered to listen to the logic of the Holy Spirit.
Anne Wilson was feeling the same way when she wrote her latest song, Who I Am to You. She recently shared the story behind the lyrics.
🎶 That liar, liar’s whispering again
And lately, it’s been sounding like the truth
Sowing seeds of doubt up in my head
But those seeds of doubt ain’t ever growing roots 🎶
Mine would not grow roots either because the Lord sent just the right person to say just what I needed to hear when I needed to hear it the most.
It was all I needed to break the cloud of doubt and know who I was and what I was made to do.
Not every professional upheaval is of Satan. Sometimes the Lord shakes things up so we can get out of our comfort zone and move to where He’s calling us. He often closes one door so He can open another.
But that doesn’t change who we are.
It doesn’t change our worth.
It doesn’t change His love.
🎶 I’m loved and I’m chosen
I’m no longer broken
And now that I know that, I’m Yours
When doubt gets to working
And tells me I’m worthless
Those tricks, they don’t work anymore
‘Cause a King says I’m worth dying for 🎶
I still don’t have clear answers on everything regarding my writing, but I have a clear understanding of my identity in Christ. I have a peace that is stronger than the uncertainty of my future. And I carry the truth of my Savior through it all.
Who I Am to You (Anne Wilson, 2026)
Who I am is who I am to You
I’m not who I’ve been
Who I’ve been has been made new
So every time the enemy tries me
I say, “Get behind me”
I’m trading his lies for the truth
Devil, he can’t tell me who I am
‘Cause who I am is who I am to You
