I have a good friend who lives in Tennyson Oaks. Invariably, every time I leave her house I must wait for all of the ducks marching single file to cross the road before I can turn onto Horseshoe Drive.
How many times do we wait to have all of our ducks in a row before we move forward in life?
I had an incredible day today. Nothing in itself was extraordinary, just a random Tuesday. But it was a day filled with simple joys. The kind that buoys a spirit still grieving a loss and uplifts a soul still waiting on answers.
It was a day filled with what I’ve been calling the four pillars of a life well-lived: food, faith, family, and fun.
I started the morning on the front porch swing, just enjoying a few quiet moments of solitude. Ladies Bible Study was next, a wall-to-wall meeting of some of my favorite ladies in the world. We are studying The Prayer Code by O.S. Hawkins. There’s no doubt in my mind that staying in a continual state of prayer has protected my peace and joy.
That isn’t just in the quiet place, by the way. It’s when you are out and about, having fun as well.
And the rest of my day was filled with fun!
Dad and I went to Kees Park to early vote before heading over to the Grand Opening of Cormane’s Lou and Laura’s. We loved the new restaurant and look forward to trying several more things on the menu during future visits!
I worked a little on the swing this afternoon before driving to Natchitoches for some Music Bingo this evening. Tim, Brennon, Emma, and I enjoyed pizza, candied bacon wings, mini meat pies, and pizza rolls while simultaneously singing song snippets and marking off our bingo cards.
So close but still so far…
I didn’t bingo but singing a variety of 80s rock, 90s country, and 00s pop was still a win for me. Bonus: Emma won the blackout round and scored a $50 gift card!
Music Bingo is every Tuesday night at 6:30. We will be back!
It was such an ordinary day, yet in its simplicity it became a day that I will forever treasure.
It reminds me a little of Emily’s revelation at the end of Our Town:
“Oh, earth you’re too wonderful for anyone to realize you! Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it – every, every minute.”
