Let’s face it. You like being around people who like being around you. It’s only natural. You aren’t going to seek emotional support from your enemies. Why would you?
That’s the premise of this song. A causal connection between you and the Lord.

But it’s a little more than “I’m holding on to Bruce cause I know that Bruce is holding onto me.”
I smile as I write that. Mom’s dementia had gotten worse but she and Dad had a running joke. She might forget she had clothes in the dryer. Or that a grandchild’s birthday was coming up. But when Dad would ask her, “What’s my name?” she’d reply “Bruce” every time without fail.
My dad’s name is John.
But I digress…
Even the strongest earthly relationship is no match for the strength in a divine bond with the Lord. His strength is made known in our weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
The power and the hope that come from Above can take even the hardest trials and the deepest valleys and still leave you singing praises.
It is a bond that cannot be broken, and it is the one bond that exists for eternity.
Trust people, sure… the Lord wants us to make deep and meaningful connections.
It is not good that man should be alone… Genesis 2:18
But remember the relationship that should always come first, the one that will never fail you. It is the one relationship you can safely cede control to, knowing that everything He does is always in your best interest. The bond between the Creator and His creation—you—is impenetrable.
But it is strengthened through praise.
