“Here’s the church, here’s the steeple…here’s to all God’s crazy people…” Casting Crowns sings in their hit song, Crazy People.
Remember the trick learned by interlocking your fingers to make a church out of your hands? And remember all those “crazy people” you learned about in Sunday School?
Crazy People begins by calling them out.
🎶 Who builds a boat with no clouds in sight?
Who walks up to a giant and picks the fight?
Who turns a lion’s den into a petting zoo?
Who can have a church in the fiery furnace? 🎶
By the way, that’s Noah; David; Daniel; and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. The crazy ones.
We see them now as great men of God, but in their time they were often considered foolish.
Don’t let the ridicule of men hinder the testimony you leave behind.
I used to be so afraid to speak the name of Jesus. People would think I was crazy. They’d call me a holy roller or a Bible thumper. I wanted to be cool. I needed to be liked.
I hid my light under a bushel.
But then my life exploded and my crazy came out. Not in an on-fire-for-the-Lord zealot kind of way either. A 5-1-5-0 this-chick-has-lost-it thing. Yet despite it all, the Lord never denied me. In fact, He restored me.
And I decided if they were gonna call me crazy, I was gonna be crazy for Him. I don’t care what anyone thinks anymore. About me, about my faith, about my life…
I live for an audience of One.
And in true dramatic fashion, I want to be the star of His show. I want to be one of His followers who has her name written in giant font in the Book of Life. I want to be one of those Crazy People who does whatever He asks, whether I understand it or not.
Crazy People (Casting Crowns, 2022)
Who sees the world as a mission field? (Crazy)
Who talks to Jesus like He’s real? (Crazy)
Who believes the words in red? (Crazy)
Who says He’s coming back again? (Crazy)
Crazy people trusting Jesus
Following Him wherever He leads us
Kingdom seekers, walk by faith believers
Here’s the church, here’s the steeple, here’s to all God’s crazy people
Crazy people (crazy people)
I’m one of those, I’m one of those crazy people
If following Jesus ever makes you feel out of step with the world, you’re probably doing it right. Faith has always looked foolish to those watching from the outside — until God shows up and proves obedience was never crazy at all. So don’t shrink back, don’t dim your light, and don’t wait for approval. Be one of the “crazy people” who says yes, even when it doesn’t make sense.
