Spiritual Circumcision

I’ve been working on my book this week, a Spirit-inspired book sharing God’s message to others. I’ve started each day by reading the inspired words He gave to others.

He’s taken me to Ezekiel, an exiled priest turned prophet. I can’t believe I even questioned that one. I have been LIVING that for almost two years!

He also takes me to many of Paul’s letters as was the case today when I was lead to Colossians 2. There was much to be gleaned from this chapter. I began a new journal, a sweet house(sitting)-warming gift appropriately titled IGNITE, in which I’m writing messages from the Lord, verse by verse.

There was also confirmation of my mission through this passage. Not only am I to share salvation with the lost, I am to provide guidance for Christians in bondage to be set free.

After all, I spent half my life in bondage. It is now time to help others unhook the latch of their own unlocked cages and fly free.

One verse in particular left a vivid picture and strong message.

In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ. Colossians 2:11

I remember the doctor coming in shortly after my son was born. It was time for the circumcision, something I knew nothing about having grown up with only a sister. I was terrified of hurting my sweet little baby despite everyone’s assurances that he would be fine.

While that circumcision was done by human hands, God’s circumcision cuts the sin out of our lives, removing the no good flesh that allows us to walk fully in the Spirit.

Sometimes it is as painful for Him to watch our spiritual circumcision as it was for me to hear the cries of my newborn’s physical one.

But unlike the physical circumcision, a procedure that it is fine to decline, you get no such options with a spiritual circumcision. Choosing to stay wrapped in your sin will lead to an eternal death. Likewise, stopping the procedure halfway through and leaving a few “vices” can be quite unseemly.

Allow the Lord to perform this spiritual circumcision so that you may be risen with Him (v.12), forgiven (v.13), and have your slate wiped clean (v.14). This is when you do your victory dance over the devil (v.15).
