I Refuse…

I always think I’ve discovered a new song when I hear it for the first time. Turns out, the Josh Wilson song “I Refuse” was released in 2011!

While the song was new to me, its message was not:

Cause I don’t want to live like I don’t care.
I don’t want to say another empty prayer.
Oh, I refuse to
Sit around and wait for someone else
To do what God has called me to do myself.
Oh, I could choose
Not to move but I refuse.

Are you God’s hands and feet? Or do you just say a prayer for those in need and then move on, maintaining focus on your own needs. The world has done us a great disservice by promoting putting our own needs first 24/7. There is a time to give and a time to receive.

Overextending yourself and playing doormat to toxic relationships are not healthy. But neither is elevating self.

Jesus went alone to the mountain to pray. He also went into the throngs of people to minister to them. He had a purpose. But He also had balance.

Do you?

Are you living the life He created you for? Or are you living the life you wanted for yourself? When you surrender your will to His, those two merge together seamlessly.

If you’re waiting for God to yield to your desires, you’ll be constantly kicking against the pricks. Chances are, He laid on your heart what He wanted for you a long time ago.

So, if you say move,
Then it’s time for me to follow through,
And do what I was made to do.

Refuse to sit still. Refuse to turn your head and look the other way. Refuse to pass the buck to “someone better equipped” to handle the problem. Refuse to make excuses. Refuse to wait another day…

Lest He refuse you one day…
