We’ve all heard of the popular A Purpose-Driven Life book and agree that a life with purpose is vital to spiritual well-being but there’s more.
We should ensure that we are living a purpose-driven day each and every day.
Every act has purpose, from cleaning the house to watching television to helping your elderly neighbor shovel the snow. What you do doesn’t matter as much as why you are doing it.
Cooking and cleaning to provide for your family is a godly quality. Watching television for relaxation can be a good thing as long as the television isn’t an idol in your life or being used to distract you from a relationship with God. Helping your neighbor for five minutes in love is worth more than spending five hours begrudgingly.
Man looks at the outward; God looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)
Whether I’m witnessing or volunteering or vacationing or cleaning, I commit my time, my heart, and my mind to Christ. Each day has purpose, whether I’m ministering to others or just to Him. Every work done is done in service to Christ. Each day has purpose.
I start each morning with a devotion and prayer. I don’t allow myself to read anything else before my time with God. It helps to set the tone for a purpose-driven day.
Even the quieter days have purpose, sometimes even more so because they allow time to just rest in the Lord without the noises and demands of the rest of the world. I’ve learned to control my mind, something that took a year of conscious training. Intrusive thoughts no longer have place and the resulting peace was worth the pain. It is much easier to find purpose with a clear head.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
A clear mind, a disciplined start to each day, and a commitment to ensure every action you take is pleasing to the Lord…that is the secret to a peaceful, purpose-filled day every day.
