GEAR UP: BEING STILL

It’s Sunday night! Time to gear up for a new week. As always, the best way to do that is to PUT ON THE ARMOR OF GOD (Ephesians 6:10-18) but we also will focus on ONE area to strengthen our walk with the Lord. Just one focus to help us grow a faith that cannot fade with the demands of life and the pressures of this world. This week we will focus on BEING STILL!

What a perfect week for this!

But, first an apology….because I’ve not been too understanding when young moms say they have no time for themselves…or prayer. You MAKE time, I’d counter.

Then I kept my 15-month old grandson for a week.

I took for granted things like, say, using the bathroom when you needed to. 😊 It’s HARD to make time for yourself when you have young kids. Apparently, I had a great nanny and diminishing faculties because, despite having four stairstep children, I’d forgotten this.

Since my themes were planned a year in advance, it is pure serendipity that BEING STILL popped up right after my rather challenging week. But I’m still going with it. (If you’ve got a toddler, maybe save this for FUTURE reference?!)

We don’t stop enough. We go and go and go. In fact, when the Lord asks Satan what he’s been doing, his answer was “From going to and fro on the earth…” (Job 2:2)

It reminds me of myself at times. Because I like to plan ahead, I’m never actually finished. I may meet deadlines on time but I still never stop because it’s on to the next thing. I’m going to and fro.

But Jesus rested.

He rested in the boat in the midst of a storm. He rested on a mountain. He even took a moment and drew in the sand while others were crying for a woman to be stoned to death for adultery.

Jesus knew how important it was sometimes to just sit still.

And yet, here we are…here I am…emulating Satan with our fast-paced, hectic lives instead of following Jesus’ example and just being still.

Carve out at least 15 minutes EACH DAY this week to just BE STILL. Listen to some quiet music, pray, read, meditate….just enjoy BEING instead of doing.
