GEAR UP: SMILE

It’s Sunday night! Time to gear up for a new week. As always, the best way to do that is to PUT ON THE ARMOR OF GOD (Ephesians 6:10-18) but we also will focus on ONE area to strengthen our walk with the Lord. Just one focus to help us grow a faith that cannot fade with the demands of life and the pressures of this world. This week we will focus on SMILING!
Lately I’ve been met with huge smiles. I thought something was on my face or I was wearing two different shoes. It took awhile to realize they were mirroring what was on MY face.
It made me think of the Reese Witherspoon “Legally Blonde” movie. Reese’s character, Elle Woods, is surmising that the defendant they’ve been hired to represent couldn’t possibly be guilty of murder because she owns an exercise franchise.
Elle: Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. And happy people don’t shoot other people.
Cue the laughter.
Only it isn’t as absurd to me as it was when I first heard it.
Because I HAVE been exercising. And smiling without even realizing it.
What a difference that has made! I’ve been more approachable; people have been friendlier in return.
This week our focus is on SMILING. Give an ear to ear grin to everyone you meet. They might think you’re a little nuts at first but I guarantee they’ll smile back. Before long, you won’t even have to force yourself to smile, it’ll come naturally.

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Proverbs 17:22

(Bonus Tip: Get some of those exercise endorphins and smiling will be even easier!!)

GEAR UP: PATIENCE

In your patience possess ye your souls. Luke 21:19

That’s not good news for those with no patience, is it?

Your very soul is affected by the patience, or lack of, in your life.

Let all of the noise fade away and focus on this one thing this week: PATIENCE!

If you frequently encounter long waits, keep a small devotional handy to read. You may be looking for more time each day to read your Bible anyway.

If your patience wears thin at work or at home with your spouse or kids, take a deep breath before reacting. Every time. By the end of the week, you may have developed a new habit you’d like to continue.

Impatient waiting for answers? Make a gratitude list of everything you have NOW.

You can do it! Add a little patience to your week!

GEAR UP: Kindness

It’s Sunday night! Time to GEAR UP for a new week. As always, the best way to do that is to PUT ON THE ARMOR OF GOD (Ephesians 6:10-18) but we also will focus on ONE area to strengthen our walk with the Lord. Just one focus to help us grow a faith that cannot fade with the demands of life and the pressures of this world. This week we will focus on KINDNESS!

Perform at least one act of kindness each day this week. Bring the neighbor’s trash can to the curb. Hold the door for someone with their hands full. Bring flowers to an elderly neighbor. Any act, big or small, counts. LOOK for ways to show kindness to someone in need. When we help others, we take the focus off ourselves and our selfishness. Who knows…your small act of kindness could start a chain reaction that changes your entire community!
