One of the highlights of my year is judging at the Louisiana Beta Convention, particularly judging the speech competition. There are always speeches that stay with me long after the awards are handed out.
This year there were a few. Hearing middle schoolers talk about character and integrity — two traits I didn’t realize the full importance of until way after my own middle school years — was inspiring. But there was one that reached into my very soul.
This year’s theme was Wired For Success. Most of the speeches revolved around being plugged in and phones that were useless without being powered up.
But this one went one step further.
Plug into purpose.
As she detailed the contrast between her experiences with and without purpose, I thought of my own. There were good works. There was a modicum of success.
But it’s like I was a VHS tape in a streaming world.
When I stepped into purpose — when I fully plugged in to what God had created me for — the whole motherboard lit up.
Plug into purpose, she’d repeated. Then she dropped the line that belied her age.
And when you aren’t quite able to keep going, plug into faith.
