We often feel that we are burdened with heavy chains, shackled to the demons who torment us day and night. That’s what Satan would have us believe. He’s got the key and we can never escape.
But those chains are no more binding than the strips of construction paper we used in elementary school to glue together paper chain garlands.
Because when you give yourself to the Lord, shackles and shame included, He breaks every chain and shows you what it’s like to be free.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36
Every time I feel the weight of the world encircling me like chains, I remember this powerful song. And nowhere is it more darkness-shattering than when a thousand faithful voices are singing it together in a service or at a concert, like the one I attended at the Brandon Amphitheater last summer.
It was the ultimate checkmate for Satan.
Chainbreaker (Zach Williams, 2016)
If you’ve been walking the same old road
For miles and miles
If you’ve been hearing the same old voice
Tell the same old lies
If you’re trying to fill the same old holes inside
There’s a better life, there’s a better life
If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain-taker
If you feel lost, He’s a way maker
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior
If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker
Do you feel like you are bound by sin? Sometimes it’s not even our own but the sins of others that have us in bondage. Jesus can take it all — He is the Chainbreaker.
