Media Monday: Til the Day I Die

One of my favorite TobyMac songs, these lyrics represent a life completely surrendered to Christ. And not just surrendered, but committed to sharing that devotion with the entire world.

It is having a fire that the world’s hose cannot extinguish.

But His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones; and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not hold back. Jeremiah 20:9

Every word of this song describes my life today—my purpose, my passion. This is the version of me I was created to be. The version that came after surrendering.

Til the Day I Die (TobyMac, 2015)

I’ll keep swingin’ for the fences
It’s like this heart is defenseless
Against the passion that’s pumpin’ through my veins
Blood, sweat, tears, it’s a callin’
And if I can’t walk, then I’m crawlin’
It might flicker, but they can’t kill the flame

Til the wheels fall off
‘Til the spotlight fades
I will lift Your banner high
I will lift Your banner high
And ’til the walls crash in
For the rest of my days
I’ll lay it all on the line
‘Til the day I die

It’s runnin’ deeper than the ocean
This ain’t religion, it’s devotion
3-6-5, every minute, every day
So in the middle of the madness
They can stretch me out like canvas
But I ain’t ever gonna fit in their frame

This is my life—every minute of every day. God isn’t just in the morning devotions or the bedtime prayers. He is my entire world.

And that started the minute I finally got out of the way of my own life.
