Surrender vs. Self-Management

Surrender is not the same as self-management.

That’s the word I got as I was driving to Biloxi yesterday. They seem similar, yet one leads to victory and the other masquerades as triumph while keeping you in bondage.

Which one reigns supreme in your heart?

Self-management: I’ll handle this — but I’ll ask God to bless my plan.
Surrender: I will obey, show up, and steward what’s in front of me — but I release the outcome, the timing, and the cost to God.

Self-management: I will pray for healing while tracking every symptom, adjusting and mentally monitoring my body all day.
Surrender: I’ll do the next right thing (eat, walk, rest, take meds as directed) and stop narrating the healing process to myself.

Self-management: I just need to keep my head down, hustling and proving my worth, so others will see Christ in me.
Surrender: I’ll work faithfully, tell the truth, and fulfill obligations — and let God handle the perception, provision, and pace.

Self-management: I will be the peacemaker, the fixer, and the one to hold things together for the glory of God.
Surrender: I will act with integrity and allow others to feel what they feel without rescuing them from it.

Self-management: If this feels uncomfortable, I must be doing something wrong.
Surrender: I accept that discomfort is sometimes part of obedience.

Self-management: If I can just get everything under control, nothing bad will happen.
Surrender: Even if something bad happens, God is still leading.

Self-management: I’ve got this. I just need a better plan.
Surrender: I don’t need a better plan. I need to let go and let God.

Self-management: I can do all things!
Surrender: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
