Have you ever taken your car to be detailed? Not the express wash where you polish and vacuum and shine to the best of your ability but the professional clean-every-crack-and-crevice to get it looking factory new?
They overlook nothing.
The Lord is the same way. A popular saying is that the devil is in the details, but the Lord surpasses him by miles. He notices everything.
And He delights to take care of the smallest things for His children.
For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:32-33
Before I embarked on a 30-day, cross-country trip, I needed some new jeans. I don’t travel with a purse so I needed more than the two pockets my jeans had. I couldn’t find any before I left so I figured I’d just have to make it work. I’d decided I had too much to do to worry about my clothes.
Unbeknownst to me, the Lord was already taking care of it for me.
On the first night of the trip—while staying at a friend’s house who knew nothing of my jeans predicament—she gave me three pairs of Levi’s she couldn’t wear. Skeptical—because I rarely find jeans that fit just right, and because I hadn’t yet seen God in this story—I tried them on.
They fit like second skin.
Not only did I now have four pockets to carry cash, cards, room keys, hand sanitizer, and keys, but the waistband was stretchy enough for a woman who’d birthed five babies while the legs were tight enough to keep me warm in 20° weather.
Not to mention, they were gifted to me on Day 1.
It was then that I saw God in the details. He’d seen the desire of my heart even if my mind had triaged it into insignificance.
Delight thyself also in the Lord: and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalm 37:4
I never prayed for jeans to materialize out of thin air. I prayed to be a vessel for Him on this trip, to be a light in a darkened world and a voice for those who could no longer hear.
While I didn’t place this need in His hands, I did place my obedience there. And when our hearts are aligned with Him, He handles the rest—even the details we set aside.
