Media Monday: Cornerstone

A cornerstone is like the building’s GPS—it tells every other stone where to go. Set it right, and the whole structure stands tall; set it wrong, and things get a little wobbly. It’s the starting line, the compass, the “first move” that everything else depends on.

Without that cornerstone, the whole house is wonky. Without Jesus as YOUR cornerstone, you become the man of nursery rhyme lore:

There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile, He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile; He bought a crooked cat which caught a crooked mouse, And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

But to live upright, and just, and become a true follower of Christ, you need only to set Jesus as your cornerstone.

This week’s focus is to ditch the spiritual level where you try to balance out your sins with good works, and make sure Jesus is set as your cornerstone. Is everything in your life tied into HIM? Your work, your relationships, your downtime, your dreams? If not, dismantle it all and build it up again with Jesus as your cornerstone.

Cornerstone, TobyMac (2022)

Bible by my bedside, sweatin’ through a long night
Wrestling the hounds of shame
Tryna turn the hands back on a troublin’ past
Every move I make’s in vain
But even in the shifting winds
You are who You’ve always been
You’re the only rock that I could ever stand on
Through it all You remain
The sun goes up, the sun comes down
This old world keeps spinnin’ ’round
I’m here travelin’ down this long and winding road (this winding road)
Yeah, seasons come and seasons go
They take me high, then leave me low
But I’m still standing on the only rock I know
You’re my cornerstone
Oh, oh, oh, no matter where I go, my cornerstone
