Taylor Swift said on Jimmy Fallon this week, “You have to keep finding joy in the chaos.”
It’s a sentiment I’ve been sharing all year. It sounds catchy in a lyric, but it’s also a biblical truth. Long before late-night TV, Paul wrote from a prison cell: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).
That’s the heart of the Christian life — joy doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. Joy is the steady flame that burns even when the winds howl around us. Chaos isn’t the absence of joy; it’s the backdrop that makes joy shine all the brighter.
I’ve lived enough life to know this isn’t easy. Just this week, I had to fight to hold joy in the middle of heartbreak. But I’ve learned joy is a CHOICE.
To paraphrase another Taylor statement: “Joy is a luxury item EVERYONE can afford.” You just have to decide if your life is going to operate in the currency of negativity…or positivity.
I’ve learned joy isn’t about ignoring reality — it’s about anchoring yourself in a deeper one. God doesn’t promise us a life free of storms, but He does promise His presence in the middle of them.
So yes, Taylor’s right — we have to keep finding joy in the chaos. And Scripture shows us how: not by clinging tighter to control, but by loosening our grip and rejoicing in the Lord who holds it all.
Joy in the chaos isn’t just pop culture wisdom. It’s gospel truth.
✨ How are you “spending” your life — searching for pennies on the sidewalk to buy happiness, or accepting the luxury gift of joy that’s priceless?
