Media Monday: Rebel

I gotta be honest. This Anne Wilson tune appealed to me because I still have a bit of a rebellious streak, a fly-in-the-face-of-danger mentality that must be kept in check.

I love the idea of being a rebel FOR Christ, though.

Wilson goes on to list such rebels as David, Daniel, and Moses…calling them members of her own family tree.

I feel the same. I’m following in my ancestors’ footsteps, those joint-heirs of salvation who also committed to following Christ. They, too, watched the crowd go one way as they went the other.

It’s one of the things that makes me a good spokesman for Christ. I don’t care what the world thinks is appropriate. I don’t want to be politically correct. I don’t care if they call me crazy.

I just want to speak His words and do His will. All those brownie points with the world get tossed in the fire in the end. And if you aren’t careful, you will be too.

This week’s focus is on following Christ even when it means taking a stand against the world. Are you participating in office gossip or are you standing up for the one being talked about? Are you going along with the crowd and grieving the Holy Spirit? Do you hold your Bible at arm’s length and your vices a little closer? Be a rebel FOR Christ not against Him.

Rebel, Anne Wilson (2024)

Who talks to a man that they can’t see?
Who finds power in an old book they read?
In a world full of doubt, who still believes?
Who talks to a man that they can’t see?
Call me crazy, call me a fool
I ain’t scared ’cause I know the truth
I ain’t gonna run, I ain’t gonna hide
I ain’t gonna change my mind
When the crowd goes one way, I go the other
When the battle rages, I won’t back down
The gates of hell are gonna shake and tremble
In the name of Jesus, gonna stand my ground
If a rebel’s what it takes, a rebel’s what I’ll be
‘Cause the one I follow was a rebel like me
Rebel, rebel
Rebel, rebel
Got a long line of rebels in the family tree
The ones who weren’t afraid to make history
David to Goliath, Daniel to the lion
Moses pushing back the sea
Got a long line of rebels in the family tree, oh
