Satan hates God’s mouthpieces. When you stand in the light, don’t be surprised when false accusations rise up to discredit you and silence the words of the Holy Spirit.
It’s a little like a comedian on stage. The audience came to laugh, but one heckler keeps shouting insults. The job of the comedian isn’t to argue back—it’s to stay steady and keep going. And more often than not, the crowd turns against the heckler, not the performer.
In Acts 24, Paul stood before Governor Felix while a lawyer named Tertullus read out a list of false charges. Felix had his own corrupt agenda, but Paul didn’t waver. He defended himself with truth, and then—boldly—he preached righteousness and prophesied about judgment to come.
I’ve had my own Felixes and Tertulluses. People who hid secret agendas. People who tossed out false accusations to anyone who would listen. And in those moments, I hold onto words a good friend once told me: Character outweighs reputation.
Jesus said it plainly: “By their fruit you will recognize them.” (Matthew 7:20)
We don’t need to waste time in tit-for-tat battles with those doing Satan’s bidding. Judgment will come, as it did for Felix—who lost his governorship in disgrace. And as for Tertullus? He was just an inconsequential heckler in the crowd.
When accusations fly, remember—your character speaks louder than their lies.
