Media Monday: Tell the Devil

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

Are you truly resisting?

I’ve been trying to watch what I eat. It’s hard. I’ll say I’m resisting sweets and cutting back on sugar but each time I walk in the kitchen, I’ll grab a small cookie or take a bite of a brownie. That’s not resisting. That’s paying lip service to something I want to do but haven’t been disciplined enough to follow through.

My consequences show up on the scale.

We do the same with sin. A little lie here, another vice there. We become so immune to our sins that we don’t even notice we are yielding to Satan instead of resisting.

Those consequences show up at the Judgment Seat of Christ.

This week’s focus is on catching those little worms and telling the devil to back off, you are submitting to God instead. He no longer gets to play with your emotions or control your actions.

Check out the story of artist Joseph Habedank. It’s an incredible tale of a Christian artist who realized he was not living for Christ at all despite his songs before turning his life over to him.

Tell the Devil (Joseph Habedank, 2024)

Lies on his breath every time he spoke
From the pit of hell, you can smell the smoke
But I can see him trembling at the mention of Jesus’ name, oh-yeah

So when that old accuser has hung me down
I say there ain’t room for two in this Holy Ghost town

Tell the devil (tell the devil) who’s child I am
I’m covered (I’m covered) by the blood of the Lamb
He took his best shot but he lost the fight
Tell the devil (tell the devil), there’s an empty grave
There ain’t nothing (there ain’t nothing), but some broken chains
And no good liar can touch my life
With the cross before me, the devil’s gotta get behind
