I have multiple playlists of worship songs. They have specific jobs. To fight fear, unforgiveness, depression, anxiety… I even have one that just plain ole fights Satan.
I like to listen to that one when facing conflicts with other people. It helps me remember Ephesians 6:12:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Today was a more relaxed day so I was just listening to the radio. 104.3 The Bridge is my go-to station. (You miss the new stuff when you only listen to your own playlists.)
I knew within the first three lines of the 2025 Emerson Day tune, Get Behind Me, that I’d found a new warrior song. It immediately went on my Fighting Satan playlist plus two other lists, Spring 2025 Worship and All-Time Fave Worship.
It was that powerful!
And it gave me a new image to store in the battleground of my mind: blood-bought boots! I think they go perfectly with my new cowboy hat!
Devil get behind me, run on home
Back to the grave where you belong
In case you forgot, let me tell you the truth
You’re stuck under my blood bought boots
Devil get behind me, you got no hold
I’ve been changed by the Holy Ghost
Try all you want, but it ain’t no use
You’re stuck under my blood bought boots
The lyrics are mired in truth:
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. Romans 16:20
Get thee behind me, Satan. Matthew 16:23
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19
Sometimes I forget the power of God in me. Sometimes I fall for the lies the devil whispers in my ear.
But this powerful song reminds me that Satan is under my storm-kicking boots.
The same power that raised my savior
Is the power that lives in me
So if you wanna pick a fight, you better think twice
‘Cause He’s got a angel army
Even when you feel like you are alone, you are never alone. The Lord has an army of angels encompassed about you. Put on the helmet of salvation (or cowboy hat if you will) and those blood-bought boots and start walking.
Or stomp on Satan like you are the last man standing in a vineyard of grapes at a winery!
