About 4 months ago, I noticed that adding a song clip to the thought bubble over your FB profile was an option. I decided to utilize that feature as part of my faith platform for 100 days.
I made a list of about 50 songs and found verses to go with them. I used a couple of lists to keep track but eventually merged them into one alphabetical list, only adding the verse the morning I posted the song.
It wasn’t a bad way to start my day. Before I ever get out of bed, I choose a song (I’m constantly adding to the list) and select the portion I want to highlight. I then choose a verse that goes with the lyrics and put it on my notes list as well as under the song snippet on Facebook. Some days it’s a song that speaks to my current situation, some days it’s something that once helped me that I hope will help someone else, and some days it’s just the latest earworm from 104.3 The Bridge.
But there’s a new one every day. Like Facebook stories they disappear after 24 hours and there’s no prescheduling. It was a 100-day commitment.
I eventually took the list and create Media Mondays on this blog. Each Monday I feature one of the songs and explain its meaning and what it means to me. I include some of the lyrics and link to a YouTube video that isn’t ad supported. (I feel strongly that you shouldn’t have to watch an ad to hear God’s message.)
Today I realized that I’d stopped thinking of it as a 100-day commitment. It was just part of my routine and I didn’t want to stop doing it. (If only I get that way about exercise! 🙄) So I counted the ones I’d done and realized it’s been 119 consecutive days! I have no intention of stopping.
While I preschedule Media Mondays about three months at a time (placing an asterisk next to the title on my sheet to keep track), the FB song stories and verses are daily posts. A morning that starts with worship music and scripture, before my feet ever hit the floor.
Why would I ever want to stop that?!
