An Easter Reminder

As I sit in Waffle House, the holiday traveler’s go-to, on Easter Sunday, I am reminded of the promise of hope given to us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It was a hope I once lost completely.

Once you come out of darkness so deep, you appreciate the light. You have experienced Psalm 23:4, if only in retrospect:

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Life is a series of mountains and valleys and we are on earth to become experienced hikers and to enjoy the trail, from the scenic vistas to the tough climbs.

But we often want to take the helicopter tour instead.

And when we do find rough terrain, we often envision the Grand Canyon when it’s merely a pothole.

Our grandparents used to say- don’t borrow trouble! The Lord says, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34

I found myself getting down about a difficult situation in my life recently. It is one that will likely get worse, and I was reminded of a time in my life where the Lord had me in a place of rest.

However I didn’t realize it until I was back in the fire. I’d completely wasted my season of rest by continually focusing on conflict. It was a mistake I wouldn’t make again.

I’m in a similar place of rest now. It is not without its trials but I will no longer make mountains out of molehills. There are times of crisis and there are times of self-sabotage. Know the difference.

And no matter what season of life you’re in, there is always hope in the promise of Luke 3:5:

And the valleys shall be filled, and every mountain and hill made low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places shall be made plain…

Happy Easter, everyone!
