Suppose you have a 50/50 chance of winning Publisher’s Clearinghouse Million Dollar Sweepstakes. An Ed MacMahon protege will arrive at your house with an oversized check and a bouquet of balloons.
Or he won’t.
Either way, you’ll be okay because a 1 in 2 chance isn’t bad. If you win, you gain a million dollars. But even if you lose, you haven’t really lost anything. You sit back and wait for the announcement.
But there’s another set of odds with much more dire consequences.
“That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.” Matthew 24:39-41
That’s a 1 in 2 shot. And when THAT announcement is made, there are no late submissions.
You can sit back and hope that you are one of the ones who gets into Heaven. Or you can get your heart right and under complete submission to Christ and KNOW that you are His, increasing your odds to 100%.
Are you in danger of being left in the field, pleading with the Lord as in Matthew 7:21-23?
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Look at your life. Are you excusing sin? Have you allowed little vices? Do you plan to “get it right” one day?
Or have you laid it all down, wanting only to please Him? Knowing that when that day comes, you are not sitting with fingers crossed hoping you’ve made it to Heaven?
