I’m constantly having to remind my dad that he doesn’t have to be Mr. Fix It. God doesn’t need his assistance, as much as he’d like to give it.
My dad is where I get my big heart from so I have to give myself that same reminder as well.
We do whatever we can to help those we love.
But when does a helping hand become a stumbling block?
“If you become a necessity to someone’s life, you are out of God’s will. As a servant, your primary responsibility is to be a friend of the bridegroom. (John 3:29)” (Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest)
When we try to be amateur providences in someone’s life, no matter how much we want to help, we are preventing God’s will.
Some people need to be face-down in the miry muck in order to know they need to be cleansed by the Master.
I was one of those people.
We all need to reach the point where we, like David, can say “Against you, and you only, have I sinned, and done that which is evil in your sight…” Psalm 51:4
But we can love and encourage others along the way, remembering we are in the wedding party only. It is not our marriage to God to interfere with in someone else’s life.
He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30
It is God in us that people need to see, not us trying to play God.
