The Best Christmas Gifts are Free…

First I must acknowledge my sister’s Christmas gift…a 5-day cruise! I’ve never been, always wanted to go, and was completely shocked to receive such a generous gift last night. Not only do I get to set sail on my own maiden voyage, I get to do it with my little sister, who has been my rock for the last year and a half.

It is an amazing gift!

But there are other gifts I’ve received this year and they were completely free.

🎁 Power, love, and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

🎁 Peace and joy. (Romans 14:17)

Gifts that were always available to me, for anyone actually…and I left them just sitting under the tree.

I can’t believe I wasted so much life playing in the chaos and hurt, wrapping the negative around me like a warm blanket. The past trauma that tormented me, along with the present trials, were grave cloths that needed to be unwrapped not protection from the world. (John 11:44)

But one cannot be unbound while running.

It took being still, and allowing the Lord to strip it all away. It took surrendering my will, my plans, my every thought to Christ.

Maybe there was a cost after all…but dying to myself paled in comparison to God sending His Son to die on a cross.

And let’s be honest…there were parts of me that needed to go!

Today has been a reminder of all the Lord has given me. A great service at church with my mom and dad this morning followed by Christmas with my son and his family. The dog and I are now snuggled up in bed about to watch White Christmas while I’m LIVING that other classic…

It’s a Wonderful Life!
