Spiritual Spelunking

Have you ever been mining for gold? Either in a real cave or at the zoo, where you sift through sand and debris to collect a bag of treasures?

Our spiritual lives can be a bit like that sometimes. We have to explore, dig through tight spaces, and look diligently for treasures as we explore life.

Watch out for the enticing fool’s gold. A minuscule sliver of a diamond is worth more than a wheelbarrow of pyrite!

I sometimes have a tendency to get caught up in all that’s going wrong, accepting that I’m in a season of turmoil and waiting for the Lord to bring me out of the valley. I know we grow in the valley. I know there’s hope in the valley. I know if I’m patient I’ll be out of the valley soon.

But I forget to spelunk while I’m there!

God’s blessings aren’t just on the mountaintop. They are in the valley as well. It might take a little more effort to unearth them but that just makes them all the more valuable.

In Malachi 3:10 the Lord says He will pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

Do you have a need from the Lord? Ask and ye shall receive. (Matthew 7:7)

But you might have to do a little digging to find it!
