My mom, like most moms of my generation, taught me this saying as a child…
“…don’t say anything at all.”
I moved away from what I thought was an archaic statement and began speaking my mind. If I didn’t like something, I spoke in the name of honesty. If someone did me wrong, I called them out in the name of standing up for myself.
Most of those words were NOT nice.
The closer I grew to Christ, the more I realized my words carried weight. They could build up or blow up. (Proverbs 18:21)
I’d thrown dynamite my whole life. It was time to start edifying.
I’ll still speak up on occasion if led by the Lord. I have the boldness to call out things like elder abuse or illegal fiduciary practices. But I’m choosing to speak life.
I can see problems in the community and still support it. I can point out the negative or promote the positive. I’ve chosen to do the latter.
Some of the negative comments I see, even on my own posts, are frustrating. They do nothing more than hold a mirror up to a darkened soul.
Just remember…God and Satan never lined up on a playground and chose sides. God had everyone on His team to start with. If you’ve found yourself on Satan’s side it’s because you “let yourself get caught” so you could stay on his side. But God is always calling out…Red Rover, Red Rover, I’m calling you over…
