A Poem of Perseverance

Darkness edges around the corners
Its mission to obliterate light
A frequent and familiar pattern
To send my mind spiraling

It won’t succeed
Those days are gone
Satan’s blueprint rejected
A new design was commissioned

How the mountaintops gleam
A respite for my soul
Peace and joy abound
All of nature harmonizes

The inevitable journey down
To the valley below
The cacophony of discord
As the prince of the air reigns supreme

He tries to bring me along
The familiar path of despair
I’m a yo-yo of emotions
Up with praise, down in prayer

But now I stand strong
Even as evil surrounds
My heart breaks but still beats
My mind questions without chaos

Through the forge of the fire
One thing has emerged
A strength that endures
When everything else fails

Not of my own might
It was always from Him
The wind beneath my wings
The restorer of my faith
