If your eyes are always on the prize, you’ll never succeed spiritually…

“Keep your eyes on the prize!”

That’s a common saying of perseverance. You focus on the goal and overcome obstacles in your way.

It isn’t a bad concept. At least in the natural realm.

But if your eyes are only on your goals, you’re completely missing the boat spiritually.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1

The Lord doesn’t instruct us to reach the finish line. He tells us to “run with endurance” instead.

Reaching our goals is never a marker of faith. The journey is.

It isn’t about getting around the obstacles, but how we handle the obstacles in our way.

Sharing our faith doesn’t take place when all the trials have ended. Our faith walk is illuminated through the trials.

Stop living life as a series of sunshine-y end goals and start living a life that shows Christ even in the midst of the storms.

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:6-7
