Perspective through the lens of grace

You know how the eye doctor flips between multiple lenses, trying to give you optimal vision?

“Which looks better, 1 or 2?”

Sometimes they look exactly the same. Other times there’s a noticeable difference. The process continues until you reach that 20/20 vision considered perfect eyesight.

The Lord wants us to have perfect 20/20 spiritual vision as well.

Recently I discovered that I view life through two different lenses. Spiritual bifocals, I suppose.

I see others through the lens of grace. I forgive; I look past mistakes. I understand that sometimes sane people do crazy things. It doesn’t change who they are. It merely represented where they were at that time. I am fully aware of the beams in my own eyes when I see the specks in the eyes of others.

But I use that harsher lens on myself and think everyone else does too. Not just the bifocal one but the makeup mirror that flips to the other side and magnifies your face 20x.

We have to see ourselves through the same lens of grace God has given everyone. He didn’t die for everyone BUT you. His mercy isn’t free to all BUT you. His promise of eternal life has no exclusions. It is free to everyone who calls upon the name of Jesus.

Stop living in the shadows of your past mistakes. Hold your head high. God has called you by name. He sees you as He sees His Son. You, too, were created in His image.

Look at yourself through the same lens He sees you through.
