“If I told you my story
You would hear Hope that wouldn’t let go
And if I told you my story
You would hear Love that never gave up”
I was driving down the road when the Big Daddy Weave song “My Story” came on the radio. It immediately grabbed my heart.
Hope is the single greatest thing I can give someone.
“And if I told you my story
You would hear Life, but it wasn’t mine
If I should speak then let it be
Of the grace that is greater than all my sin”
I’m giving my testimony tomorrow. It is the first of many scheduled speaking opportunities to share what God has done in my life. But it is not MY life I’m sharing, rather His through me.
“You would hear victory over the enemy
And if I told you my story
You would hear freedom that was won for me
And if I told you my story
You would hear Life overcome the grave”
I shouldn’t be here. Many times I didn’t want to be here. There were even more times that I walked through life just existing, a shell of the person God had created me to be.
I was a dead man walking.
“If I should speak, then let it be…
Of the kindness of Jesus that draws me in”
It is never the judgment of God that brings us to repentance but his mercy. We reach people through love not condemnation.
“This is my story, this is my song
Praising my savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my savior all the day long.”
I love that he brings in an old hymn here. Every time I hear the chorus of “Blessed Assurance” I have the most vivid recollection of watching my grandfather sing this song in their little country church outside of Baton Rouge in 1977. The song, along with its message, has remained deep in my soul ever since. It is not only the assurance of eternity through Jesus Christ, but the opportunity to experience Heaven on earth when we surrender our lives to Him.
It is time to sing my song and to share my story.
“Oh to tell you my story is to tell of Him.”
